The Hypocrisy of the Ceasefire in Palestine"

A deeply cynical matter to which capitalism has accustomed us concerns the possibility of a peace supposedly generated by reason. A peace proclaimed today by imperialism in Palestine, in a ceasefire that Zionism uses to reap the gains of genocide while continuing to kill Palestinian children. A ceasefire to draw new border demarcations with more than 50% of the land in the Gaza Strip seized from Palestinians, while in the West Bank settlers establish new settlements over destroyed Palestinian homes and attacks are launched on Lebanon.

Here ends the discourse of the “ceasefire” in Palestine; here the written word ends and hypocrisy begins. To consider, at this stage, that the Yankee-Zionist State of Israel will lay down its arms and give way to peace only reinforces the illusion that it is not necessary to put an end to that U.S. occupation colony. While the press celebrates the ceasefire (some in a bittersweet tone), homeless Palestinians experience the daily despair of not existing in their own territory, of attempting to check whether their home is still standing and dying in the attempt.

What seems not to have been understood is that the extermination of the Palestinian people is not the result of the aggressive behavior of a Netanyahu or a Trump, but rather the consequence of U.S. imperialism’s need to tighten its chains of domination in the Middle East. It stems from capitalism’s need, in its phase of decay, to plunder the exploited of the planet. For this reason, it makes no sense—as some reformists of the past argued—to believe that imperialism can sustain itself without an aggressively colonial policy, without resorting to constant wars and massacres. Entrusting the bourgeoisie with peace between nations after two world slaughters is vile infamy.

Neither the countries of the UN with their hundreds of resolutions, nor the bourgeoisie with its boycott and divestment campaigns, nor governments with their denunciations and diplomatic breaks could do anything at all against the Zionist base of the U.S. On the contrary, they continued selling weapons (Germany, Italy, and Spain), raw materials (such as Petro’s Colombia, which sells coal), and maintaining trade agreements (Mexico under Sheinbaum).

For that reason, the humanitarian aid that might arrive via the Global Sumud Flotilla—later intercepted and seized by Israel—was absolutely limited and insufficient. What was the aim of this “historic initiative”? To demonstrate that Israel does not respect the Geneva Convention? To show the world that an injustice was being committed against the Palestinian people? A litany of good intentions under the protection of the Italian and Spanish powers. The result was predictable: the aid never arrived. And without militarily confronting the Zionist army, it will be impossible to stop the genocide.

Attempting to expose Israel as a genocidal state while relying on the protection of the very powers that arm the perpetrator of genocide seems more like naivety—or a device in search of likes. Of course, this does not mean ceasing to denounce the atrocities committed by the occupation colony, including the imprisonment of workers’ party leaders who were on board the flotilla; nor does it mean neglecting to expose the petty-bourgeois illusions and intentions with which some attempt to confront Israel. likes.

Only the complete destruction of the U.S.-Zionist State of Israel, as the initial step in the defeat of the United States, can definitively end the martyrdom of Palestine and of the exploited nations of the world. These elementary tasks have already been abandoned by the bourgeoisies of Hamas and Fatah, who oppose a new Intifada.

A law to impose the death penalty on Palestinian prisoners in Israel is currently being debated in Tel Aviv, while the hypocrisy of bourgeois diplomacy retreats in its attempts to sanction Israel due to the ceasefire. As this farce of a ceasefire promised by the U.S. empire to its colonized people continues, we see an intensification of colonial policy in other parts of the world, such as Latin America.

The tasks of liberating occupied Palestine will be resolved by the international working class, opening battlefronts in every country against U.S. imperialism and against the bourgeoisies of their own nations. For this battle not to be diverted by the treacherous leaderships of the proletariat, it is necessary to refound the Fourth International to combine the democratic struggle with the struggle for international socialism.

",
